This theme issue of World Health & Population bridges achievement of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) 2015 targets and launch of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through global partnerships. Jhpiego, a NGO affiliated with Johns Hopkins University, worked over 40 years with countries and partners in evidence-based solutions for strengthening health systems and preparing high-quality public health workforce. Jhpiego initially focused on family planning programming but evolved to focus on maternal and newborn health (MNH), cervical cancer and HIV prevention, care and treatment. Articles and case studies highlight Jhpiego global leadership, training and program results from Botswana, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Zambia, Indonesia and Pakistan.
